Pros and Cons studying abroad?

My family and I had discussion very frequently.
It's either about dunya or ukhrawi, which i supposed both are important. Of course.
Recently, we had discussions on economy crisis, flood victims' needs, the issue of 'akidah and surviving in overseas.
When we were just back from our dinner which my brother had treated us, something bring us into conversation about Mat Lutfi.
How he has creative ideas that are widely accepted by everyone.
My brother spoke out his thought of how the students studying overbroad are eventually more open-minded than normal students as they are exposed ( to such situations and different culture ).
We had to agree to that because it is somehow true.
I agreed as well but..
" Exposed and survived, "
There I said it.
I always had something to say to almost everything.
I meant to say it because i just thought,
Not everyone who study overbroad got the ideas as what Mat Lutfi had.
If they do, why would some of them be culture shocked?
Why would some others faced away from the right deen of Islam?
Does the 'open-minded thinking' made you realise that Islam was wrong all the time?
Or it just made you realise that you wanted to have fun and neglect your obligation to serve Allah?

I believe that those who are exposed and survived made a good person out of themselves.

Aku tak dapat lihat masa hadapan aku.
